Artist's Description

Samuel Clemens took the pen name ( Mark Twain ) from his days as a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi. The term signaled the depth of 12 feet of water, a safe depth for riverboats. He was such a talented writer, speaker and humorist that he became an iconic American figure.

I decided to portray Mark Twain as one who maintained self-discipline in his white suit, but also as a person who desired to be free like the characters he wrote about, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Imagine sitting down under a willow tree and fishing as a paddlewheel river boat steams by. My art is my tribute to Mark Twain and his wonderful sense of humor as well as his writings that seem to surpass the end of time.
